Education
Dr. Perry Stio’s own journey in education was a testament to his belief in the power of learning. A proud Newark native, Perry earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Jersey City University, followed by two Master’s Degrees in Education Administration from Kean University. His academic pursuit culminated at Rutgers University, where he earned his PhD in Early Elementary Education—a milestone that reflected his deep expertise and passion for the formative years of a child’s life.
Forty Years in Piscataway
For nearly four decades, Perry was a cornerstone of the Piscataway School District. From 1974 to 2005, he was a fixture in classrooms across the district, teaching at:
M. L. King Intermediate
Eisenhower Elementary
Grandview Elementary
Conackamack Middle School
Randolphville Elementary
In 2005, he transitioned from the classroom to the front office, serving as the Principal of Randolphville Elementary until his retirement in 2013. Whether as "Mr. Stio" the teacher or the principal, he was more than an administrator; he was a mentor, a role model, and a "spark of potential" for thousands of students.
A Global Heart
Perry’s dedication to education didn't end at the Piscataway borders or with his retirement. He shared his experience as an adjunct professor at TCNJ and Jersey City University and traveled to Guatemala to help build schools for those in need. Even in retirement, his passion for the classroom remained so strong that he continued to serve as a substitute teacher several days a week, simply because he loved to teach.
Beyond the Desk
To those who knew him best, Perry was defined by his warmth and his "speakerphone" energy. He was a man of tradition—whether it was spending summers at Bradley Beach, making his signature homemade Sangria, or traveling the world.
He was famously thoughtful, never missing a chance to send a card to a loved one. But above all his professional accolades, his favorite title was "Grandpa." Whether he was on the sidelines of a game or holding a bouquet of flowers at a dance recital, his grandchildren—Eliana, Luke, Mia, Samuel, and Alice—were the center of his world.
The Spark Lives On
The Perry Stio Legacy Foundation was born from a desire to keep Perry’s unique brand of kindness alive. By supporting future educators who embody his spirit, we ensure that the lessons he taught—both in and out of the classroom—continue to reach students for generations to come.
